What Athena does

Every part of the app, from the default dashboard to the huge integration library underneath it.

Dashboards and history

A default dashboard covers the essentials out of the box, built from a library of card types and icons. History gives you open-ended, multi-entity graphs over any date range - not a fixed 24-hour or 7-day window.

Energy

Grid, solar, gas, water, and per-device consumption in one view, alongside a rough running cost estimate - paired with live Nord Pool electricity spot prices so automations can react to actual pricing, not just time of day.

Devices, services, and integrations

Every integration hangs off one central Devices & Services hub, hidden until you actually configure something. The library spans Zigbee2MQTT, Matter, Z-Wave, ESPHome (including a built-in config/dashboard/firmware builder), MQTT auto-discovery, and dozens of individual vendor integrations - IKEA DIRIGERA/IDÅSEN/SYMFONISK, Philips Hue, Sonos, Shelly, Tasmota, Ruuvi, Aqara, deCONZ, KNX, and more - plus local extras like Finnish Meteorological Institute weather and, for households with kids, Wilma, Jamix, and Kouluruoka.fi.

Automations and plugins

A drag-and-drop flow editor builds automations without writing code. Plugins let you go further - custom card and integration plugins written in your own JavaScript.

AI Assistant

Bring your own Chat/STT/TTS servers for a real conversational assistant, with a dedicated chat page and an AI automation node you can drop straight into a flow.

Notifications, locations, and users

Notifications track new devices and new versions with read/unread state. A Location's Areas each have their own Floor, for genuinely multi-building or multi-story setups. Accounts carry Admin, User, or View-only roles, each with their own theme, language, and font-size preferences.

Settings, logs, and backup

Database engine, ports, and history retention are all configurable. A built-in log browser with filters covers Athena's own activity - no separate log-shipping setup needed. Your whole configuration downloads and restores as one file.
